As part of standard risk reduction strategies, Staley & Associates were required to upgrade the safety on a series of 200 Tonne Hydraulic Presses.
PRESS SAFETY UPGRADE

As part of an ongoing risk reduction process, a client required the analysis, design, implementation, and commissioning of safety improvements to a series of ten 200 Tonne Vertical Hydraulic presses.

Due to the operational requirements of the press and tool changing operations, a complex safety control requirement was identified to retain the functional requirements of the machine, while establishing a Category 3 safety interlock system.

The system, once designed, required the installation of an additional control cabinet to each machine to house the Pilz Multi Programmable safety relay chosen for the task. The Pilz Multi was required to control and monitor all aspects of the safety system, included upgraded coded magnetic switches, Power Isolation Contactors, and a new Hydraulic manifold equipped with spool monitored valving.

in conjunction with the technical aspects of this project, we were also required to manage the supply of new custom design manifolds, as well as the installation and commissioning of the retrofitted hydraulics and electrics around tight production schedules.
